Oui, Spirou est mort. Mais tout de même encore bien vivant en 1958, époque où vous allez le retrouver dans une drôle de panade ! Au programme : un Fantasio ou deux, une expo universelle mythique, un Marsupilami, mais surtout un épais mystère... Entre aventure intemporelle, espace-temps ébouriffants et sous-textes de chaque instant, bienvenue dans "La mémoire du futur" ! La suite de l'interview du Spirou n°4473-74 du 3 janvier.
Olivier, comme toujours, tu nous proposes des planches avec une incroyable profusion de détails !
Olivier Schwartz : Je n'arrive pas à ne pas rentrer dans les images ! Si on me demande une image de fête foraine, j'ai du mal à masquer les arrière-plans, je dessine le moindre manège, le moindre visiteur, bref je me perds dans les détails ! J'aimerais être plus clair et savoir épurer. Sauf que je n'y arrive pas, j'en rajoute toujours. Mais le plus grand défaut des gens ne constitue-t-il pas parfois leur plus grande qualité ?
Malgré la profusion de détails de ton dessin, ton Spirou, loin d'être figé, est extrêmement dynamique !
Olivier Schwartz : Il y a des scènes qui s'y prêtaient tellement... Par exemple, celle se déroulant dans un train fantôme. J'ai adoré ça, ça bougeait de partout, il avait de la baston. Pour moi, la BD relève du cinéma. Il faut que ça bouge. D'ailleurs, Spirou n'est pas un personnage qui blablate. Il avance. C'est pour ça qu'il est moderne.
Un autre personnage qui bouge beaucoup, c'est le Marsupilami, présent dans cette nouvelle aventure.
Olivier Schwartz : J'ai voulu le faire revenir à sa version originelle, tel qu'il était quand moi, gamin, je dévorais ses aventures. J'aime bien quand il ressemble à un personnage en latex, moins quand il est plein de poils. En plus, puisqu'on voit le Marsupilami en 1958, il était normal de le dessiner comme à l'époque ! J'ai toutefois préféré, quand des personnages rencontrent leurs doubles du passé ou du futur, ne pas les dessiner tels qu'en leurs époques respectives. Les lecteurs auraient été perdus !
Ces allers-retours entre passé et futur, réalité et virtuel, mais aussi entre Benjamin et Sophie, ça ne doit pas être simple !
Benjamin Abitan : Au contraire, ça se passe dans une fluidité de tous les instants.
Sophie Guerrive : Benjamin et moi avons été obligés de faire nous aussi quelques allers-retours dans l'espace-temps, et nous y avons laissé quelques orteils. Mais ça va, on est encore vivants (contrairement à certains).
L'évasion via la vie dans le virtuel, l'abandon de prises de décision à des IA, l'occultation de la pollution planétaire : votre Spirou est très contemporain sous ses atours décalés. Cherchez-vous ainsi à faire réfléchir vos lecteurs ?
Benjamin Abitan : En tout cas, pas à leur faire la morale. Tout ça est compliqué, car le futur est à la fois désirable mais aussi plein de dangers et de promesses ambiguës. Il y a toujours eu cette dualité dans Spirou d'ailleurs, entre technophilie et technophobie, avec des inventions merveilleuses qui deviennent des armes ou qui servent au contraire à les neutraliser.
Sophie Guerrive : Les lecteurs n'ont pas besoin de nous pour réfléchir. Ce sont des sujets qui sont déjà partout, tout le temps. Spirou est une série qui a toujours collé à l'air du temps et qui absorbe les préoccupations du moment.
